Celebrating Young Talent, Zambian Independence and Good Music with Monash DJ of the year, DJKaymack and a Bowsse Hip Hop artist,

For some, the night began with purple drinks and proceeded into CHAOS on the dance floor with DJKaymack setting it on FIRE! His style of play is like no other and not many DJ's can play awesome sets of dancehall, hip hop AND old school KWAITO!!! For a born and bred Zimbabwean, all I can say is DJKaymack idhara! The way he had people doing the 'bus' dance in the middle of a club, it made October 27th a night to remember! Upholding the standard, Zambian brewed C-Flow also  took to the stage and showed us what he's made of; his freshness and creativity with words got some attention and had us jammin big time ... Of course, the night could not end without a crazy good set from the birthday Mr, DeejayBeeSA!

Kemo:  Monash DJ of the year award winner! Helllo!
DJKaymack:  Hi Kemo!
Kemo: Ok so Kudzai, tell me about DJKaymack haha, what genre of music do you play and why or how did it come about?
DJKaymack:  In the early days (2008) when I came into the SPOTLIGHT, I normally played Hip Hop and R&B, with a touch of Dancehall. Every other guy enjoys these genres and I grew up exposed to them. When I started playing for diverse audiences like Monash students, I shifted to other genres to adapt and ended up playing a mixture Hip Hop, R&B, Dancehall, House, Nigerian, Angolan, Congolese, Zambian, Zimbabwean and Kwaito.

Kemo: Wow you are definitely talented! So how do you run your sets then? Do you play everything in one set?
DJKaymack:  My sets are divided into 20 minutes for each genre depending on what type of event, and the theme of the party. At times I may have to play only 3 genres or so, if only playing for an hour. I can go up to 6 hours non-stop, and that I performed by some club in Four Ways (2009). At house parties, I normally do long hours as well.

Kemo: Ok so what or who inspired you to go into music?
DJKaymack: I grew up singing along to Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Naughty by Nature at a tender age of 7 (1993) with my brother, Mr. Massive(my mentor).  We actually used to record each other on a “Walkman” #backthen lol! For the love of music, the clubbing and party scene came about in Dec 1998 when I was 12 years (after primary School), clubbing at Archipelago, Synergy, Turtles, etc, in the ‘Afternoon’ (1pm – 7pm) lol #Zimbabweans.

Kemo: Oh wow ... I was wondering if they let 12 year olds get into clubs in Zim! haha...
DJKaymack: haha no, back then it was difficult to go out during the night #strictparents+culture, so Zimbos loved clubbing in the afternoon. Thinking about it now, heishh!!! no words lol.

Kemo: hahaha! I can tell there’s more but we won’t go there... so now? What’s going on in DJKaymacks world?
DJKaymack: Right now I am the man behind the successful Stones Featherbrooke running business since 2007 under Majik Vision Ent. and now DPT OF ENT. To date I have done quite a huge number of clubs and parties. I haven’t really had that much time to do mix tapes, because they really need my time and conscience and then I have my school work that needs to be taken care of. Holidays are my thing where I get more time to focus on the mixes. My Thursday contract with Stones (The Big Party Thursdays) together with the DPT OF ENT, have seen the introduction of DJ Bee, DJ Boza, DJ Quinny, DJ Solyd  and various artists to Stones Featherbrooke. 



Kemo: What’s the best thing about doing what you do?
DJKaymack: Every other Night in the club I get so many offers of people wanting to do parties, because they love my music and DJ’n style. You get into a cab or a friends ride, you hear your mixes playing; that tells me people approve of my music. That’s great. 



Kemo: Ask me any question you want to know the answer to?
DJKaymack: Have you listened to any DJKaymack mix tapes? Which ones do you like? Overall, do the mix tapes inspire you and do they have a meaning?

Kemo: YES!!! Wow like three questions at once haha...ok, I like all of them ... but my favourites are the old school RnB and Kwaito! The way I was dancing in my room when I first listened to them! Love it! Haha. The thing about your mixes is that they are so diverse and that shows just how gifted you are because you don’t limit yourself and that for me is an amazing thing!

Kemo: Tell me something interesting about your heritage?

DJKaymack: I’m from the sunshine city and streets of Harare ‘Zimbabwe’. Zimbabweans are rather hard workers; you find them around the world in the least expected areas, hustling and making a living. Education is our number 1 priority, but recent events in the past years we have witnessed a lot of the society leaving the country to make a living to support family back home. Media often talks about the bad Zimbabwe, but if you visit the place it’s a different story. Confirm the lovely country from International artists who are in and out of the country every other month on end. Back home I enjoy playing my old school flavas, they love them, that’s the 90’s club bangers featuring the likes of Zhane, Biggy, Horace Brown, LL Cool J, Foxy Brown, etc, I could go on and on. I will admit that this is the best music I have ever played and I really appreciate the way Zimbabweans love their music.

Kaymack and C-Flow on being Vessels

Kemo: Hi Chipoya...aka C-Flow! Tell me about what you do and the genre of music you are into?


C-Flow:  I do hip hop and it’s mainly because I find it as a sensible art to express the life situations I face day to day...

Kemo: Wow, we getting deep already ... easy now haha! 
C-Flow: haha yeh...

Kemo: So what or who inspired you to go into music and especially use it as a way to express yourself?


C-Flow: I lost my dad in 1999 and at that time I was only 9 years, sold out my age right...haha, and I found it hard to come to terms with reality so I spent a lot of time listening to Notorious B.I.G and Bone Thugs n Harmony but Notorious B.I.G inspired me to start writing my own music because of his creativity, delivery, skill and punch lines.

Kemo: Any question for me?


C-Flow: How did you find my performance in view that you hadn't heard my music or seen me performance before???

Kemo: Even though I felt that your performance was a bit short (I understand the technical difficulties though), I like your flow and you definitely have a story to tell in your music which is nice because I can connect with that; and your music also has a rawness which keeps it fresh, you are not trying to be someone else!
So tell me something about your background and projects you are working on...



C-Flow: I'm from Zambia, I am proudly Zambian hehe! I have an older sister and I have been raised by a single mom, I'm a mama's boy haha. I started recording my music professionally in June 2010 under the guidance of K-Amy Entertainments C.E.O/Main Producer Yahya Kaba aka Killa Beats and got my first gig with only a single out on August 28th, 2010 at Cantare Club, Monte Casino here in South Africa as the opening act for Jordan Katembula (Jk) one of Zambia's prominent musicians. In March 2011,I dropped my first EP under K-Amy Ent. which featured T-Sean,Daxon,Roberto and Bob Muli.I'm currently working on my second Project for next year. I promise to deliver the goods no doubt!!!
